Helen Timbury

printmaker

Helen Timbury is a printmaker whose bold and colourful linocuts are primarily figurative, evolving from a background in illustration and graphics. She completed a BA in Visual Communication at RMIT and currently works full time from her studio in West Gippsland, Victoria.

A love of the Australian wilderness is often referenced in Helen’s vibrant prints and illustrations. As natural habitat gives way to urban development around her hometown of Drouin, the themes expressed through her artwork encompass a Gippsland wilderness of increasingly precious value and fragility.

Helen’s linocuts celebrate National Parks and other protected places. She believes our many connections with landscape contribute to wellbeing. These landscapes; inland, alpine and coastal, and the flora and fauna particular to them, hold a special significance for her as an artist. Through her art practice, Helen seeks to raise awareness in others, pointing out the vulnerability, beauty and diversity of the environment.

Helen exhibits regularly in Gippsland and Melbourne; her work is held in private collections nationally and internationally.  Helen also teaches linocut printmaking and coordinates Open Studios West Gippsland; her work as a printmaker, illustrator and graphic designer overlaps and as her practice matures, increasingly the lines are blurred between the disciplines.
